About the Author

A member of the San Francisco Zen Center, Andrew Ferguson is a writer and translator who lives in Petaluma, California. Steven Heine is an authority on Japanese religion and society, especially the history of Zen Buddhism and the life and works of Dogen. He has published two dozen books, including Did Dogen Go to China? and Zen Skin, Zen Marrow. Reb Anderson Roshi moved to San Francisco in 1967 to study Zen Buddhism with Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, who ordained him as a priest in 1970. Since then, he has continued to practice at the San Francisco Zen Center, where he served as abbot from 1986 to 1995 and is now a senior dharma teacher. Anderson Roshi lectures and leads retreats around the world, and is the author of Warm Smiles from Cold Mountains and Being Upright. He lives with his family and friends at Green Dragon Temple, Green Gulch Farm, near Muir Beach, in Northern California.

This book is a 'must read' for ALL Zen/Chan students.I started Buddhist practice 8 years ago; from the Theravada tradition to the Mahayana. After studying The Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma by RedPine; I graduated to the 3 Volumne series of Chan/Zen Teachings by Charles Luk (Lu K'uan Yu). The unfolding history of our forefathers was not completely unknown to me, but a comprehensive understanding of the past was yet to be reached. This book will fill in any gaps, and I recommend it highly to all Chan/Zen practitioners. And of course other interested scholars.

I purchased and received an electronic copy of this book from Amazon. It arrived magically within moments. I'm reading it on my iPad using the free Kindle application. It's great, as the application and iPad allow me to highlight selected text, make notes, add bookmarks, lookup definitions and search the internet for related topics and then it allows me to return to the page from which I started. It is amazing technology. The book itself is a fantastic resource: organized, clearly written and well researched. I appreciate that the authors cite their sources and delineate between legend and historic probability--Bravo!

The "Official" version is the only one you should buy, period. I had another copy, and while it said it was "unedited," it was edited. Caveat Emptor! Get the CORRECT version!

One of the most life changing and awakening books I have ever read. When my kids hit their teenage years I'm going to make them study this book and take classes on it like a school course!Note: This book was written in the 1930s mostly for white males, please dont let some of the language discourage you from reading it in its entirety, there is gold in this book!

Listen!!!!! I received my book today and started reading it at work on my lunch break. I am hooked! Literally glued to the pages. This information is priceless. I did not know what to expect when I ordered it. I read The Secret years ago but have not been able to fully use it to my ability. I'm only on Chapter 2 but I see myself finishing this book in a week or less. It's like trying to do a puzzle and all the pieces are starting to go in nto place. I see why so many people gave this book a good review. You have to read this with an open mind and do what it says. I am forever grateful for finding this diamond in a ruff. Blessings to you all.

Great book but extremely repetitive. Reading half way through, I became bored with the information presented because it seemed to be presented in a different way every time it was laid out. I liked the book's information and it did help, but the way it was presented just seemed to be very repetitive.

About the Author

Mike Cronin has worked for Boston College since 2005, and he is the Academic Director of BC in Ireland. Professor Cronin is one of the world's leading scholars on the history of sport and the context within which sport functions in the twenty-first century. Prior to working for Boston College, Professor Cronin spent eight years working with the world governing body of soccer, FIFA, in delivering their International Masters course. He has also worked closely with a number of sports organizations. We are planning a Diving holiday in Costa Rica and found all the necessary informations in the book.Great pictures and very good background information in history of Cocos Island. Eveybody who is going to Cocos Island should have this book.

Over the past 30 years or so, I have made a number of trips to Costa Rica and Cocos Island. Despite all my years underwater, there are times I am not quite sure of the species of marine animals that I am encountering. While many bear strong resemblances to close relatives that inhabit waters to the north, while others look like relatives from more southern areas. Still others are endemic. Costa Rica Blue helps clarify all that, and adds fun facts and good information about the area's wildlife, geography, and history. I love good books, and this is one!

The full-color photos in this book are stunning. And the information written about each creature you will encounter in the deep blue ocean around Costa Rica is riveting. Almost encyclopedic, but not dry at all. I couldn't put this book down when I first received it, then I returned to it again and again to really digest it all. I have also loaned it to several other divers who loved it. Several have made diving in Costa Rica a goal now.

Love this book. The pictures are incredible, amazingly beautiful. The text was informative and well written. I felt like I was there with the authors enjoying the trip vicariously through their experiences. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the sea, marine life, Costa Rica or who just wants an amazing experience.

An amazing experience awaits the reader of Avi Klapher's and Genna Marie Davis's new book, Costa Rica Blue. Having known Avi for decades I expected wonderful imagery and the "back story" of Cocos Island, Costa Rica's offshore UNESCO World Heritage wonderland site but I was gobsmacked by the book's content. Every ocean experience available to the traveler takes center stage both in text and images. The book crosses genres, it's a coffee table book, a guidebook, a history book; it's a magical treasure. Thank you for wonderful memories and experiences to come.

Well written and beautiful to look at. While the photographs are truly stunning, the information provided is more than I could have imagined. Not just your ordinary coffee table book, though it surely covers that base as well. As an ocean and sea-life lover, I could not put it down. I do keep mine on my coffee table and because of that, I look through it almost daily. It feels good, looks beautiful and makes me long to dive into the seas and explore more. Cocos Island is now on my bucket list!

I have recently read this amazing book. Truly a work of love of the ocean by Genna and Avi. Stunning photos of ocean life and and costa rica. This guide is full of fun facts ,engaging history of cocos island and diving sites of costa rica. Everything is well laid out and easy to reference, all the wildlife descriptions are interesting and anyone will become more knowledgeable about marine life. Always a pleasure to read over and over. Many thanks to Genna and Avi for making the definitive guide to Costa rica.

As a guide to the waters of Costa Rica this book is awesome. With such little literature for this area it is wonderful to have a visually beautiful, informative guide to ALL of the areas. Not just Cocos. It demonstrates how much Costa Rica as a diving destination really has to offer.

About the Author

Dr. Sreenivas Alampalli, P.E., MBA, is director of the Structures Evaluation Services Bureau at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). His responsibilities include managing structural inspection, inventory, and safety assurance programs. His interests include infrastructure management, innovative materials for infrastructure applications, nondestructive testing, structural health monitoring, and long-term bridge performance. He has authored or co-authored more than 250 publications including two books on infrastructure health in civil engineering. He is the recipient of the Bridge NDT Lifetime Service Award in 2014 from American Society for Nondestructive Testing for outstanding voluntary service to the bridge and highway NDT industry. In 2013, he also received ASCE’s Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research.

Mr. William J. Moreau, P.E., served as the chief engineer of the New York State Bridge Authority for over 27 years. Two of the six Hudson River crossings previously under his care were suspension bridges, constructed circa 1924 and 1930. Maintenance and preservation of these world-class suspension bridges became a career objective for Moreau. He participated for many years as a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee and chairman of the Construction Committee for Bridges and Structures. Moreau has also been a member of AASHTO and ASCE throughout his professional career. He is currently semi-retired and continues consulting.

The short lessons are well-written, very helpful and practical. The only problem I have (thus the 4 stars rather than 5) is that the illustrations don't show on the Kindle edition.

This is a very comprehensive manual for any level of player. Like any printed material, you can find a mistake or two. To those who would make a big issue over one or two inaccuracies, GET OVER IT! MOVE ON! This is still one of the best and most accurate books on the subject out there. You probably wouldn't enjoy the sport anyway. LOL For the rest of us, follow this book and your game will improve.

this book has a great selling point in my opinion: It is a series of 1 page articles that get to the heart of a particular issues. It is a great way to hone in on topics of particular interest to the reader.

This book helped me a lot after just reading a few pages of lessons. I'v taken quite a few lessons from some professional pool players and you will always get something out of them, but just reading a few pages of instructions from professional pool instructor Tom Simpson and my game (and confidence) really jumped up. Would recommend to anyone looking to up there game!

As a certified tea specialist, couldnt recommend a better book as an importantly visually lush introduction to this immense & wonderful topic, all that is needed are the aromas, tastes and textures for the reader to explore. The author put an enormous amount of care into this and simply cannot cover everything, but what an excellent stary for beginners and resource for those experienced in the tea world, whether as a grower, retailer, teacher, enthusiast ... well done and thank you!

Loved it!! It is perfect for everyone and not only beginners. It has a lot of recepies, history, country by country tea explanation, produce process, blends, infusion, cups styles, maps....everything!! It is super friendly and has also photos of leaves so you can compare them easily and recognize them later.Easy to read. I just read it in an afternoon. I would only change the order of some of the subjects a bit.

I was so excited to receive this book, and for good reason, too! Every aspect of tea is incredibly visual -- the leaves themselves, the process of brewing, the liquor -- and this book does great justice to the beauty and ceremony of tea. The information is presented in an easily accessible format, with fascinating tidbits, historical curiosities, and unique backgrounds on all varieties of teas, tisanes (herbal teas), and more. I highly recommend this book for the tea beginner and sommelier alike.

I was so excited to receive my copy of The Tea Book the mail today! This is a wonderful reference book for tea lovers of all levels. It's full of beautiful photos, illustrations, and diagrams that make the sometimes complex subject of tea friendly and accessible. The section on world tea traditions is fascinating, and I also love the flavor wheel, which gives you some tips on tasting tea the way the professionals do. There are a host of tea recipes included, ones that call for very specific types of tea so that you can fully appreciate their distinct flavors. Lychee Strawberry Frappe, White Peony Punch, Salted Caramel Assam...can't wait to try these...love this book!!

Bought as a gift for my girlfriend, and she loved it. I gave it with a tea sampler and she loves looking up the teas she is drinking and referring this book.

LOTS of information about tea. Might not be for those with a lot of tea experience but was just what I was looking for as an introduction to various teas, tea production, tea brewing and even more. The pictures are great and help illustrate the text.

I did a lot of research before buying this book. I wanted some history, some ritual, and lots of geographic differences all spelled out for me. This book does it all!

I am passionate about tea and have read many books on the subject. This is the only book I felt I had to own! I love the writing, information and photos, simply a beautiful book about one of my favorite subjects! Love this book!
